About Larry Gill
Greetings. My name is Larry Gill. I am a professional architectural photographer. I have a passion for this work. The amazing thing about this job is that there is always constant change…always a new and unique situation. I approach each job with creativity, and strive to produce photography in a new and creative light.
Although I am versatile, architectural photography is my special passion. I am interested in the historical documentary analysis of architecture, an analysis of how we’ve been affected by architecture, and how we will continue to be affected by it. Architectural photography has always been among my interests. I am intrigued by the thousands of different styles in architecture and how they fit into a vast array of settings for the photographer’s art, such as deserts, mountains, cityscapes, suburbs, etc. With experience, diligence, research, and analysis, a photographer can often render the unique art latent in architecture, its unique setting, and ideal illumination in artful photography that captures the architect’s original intention, and the pristine beauty inherent in a building, and its master plan.
Why Hire Me?
Good enough is never good enough! I always go the extra mile to create the best photograph of a building, or object. I take pride in my work
My work in architecture is intricate and involves ample research, and acute analysis. I consider all the research phases, determine the best lighting conditions, carefully research the best angles, and strive to find the very best location. Experiencing architecture in different types of light, during different times of day enables me to determine what the architects had in mind, and find the best lighting and conditions to capture this. I make the best use of natural light, and also craft the right kinds of artificial lighting conditions as needed. Good architects have often masterminded the unique ways in which buildings are illuminated at different times of day. During different times of day, interesting things are going on with the natural illumination of buildings. It is the photographer’s job to attune to this photographically.
The majority of my architectural photography is for clients who want to show off their work in their portfolios, such as architects, builders, civil engineers, surveyors, investors, and landscape engineers that use photographs for promotional purposes. My photography has even won awards for my clients. It is great photographs that often win awards in competitions, especially since judges can’t always go out and visit the buildings themselves.
Education
I have a photography degree with a background in film and television. I studied architectural photography in college, and was mentored by top instructors in this field. My schooling provided me with a solid foundation in architectural photography. I also keep current with continuing education. With all the new technologies becoming available in this high tech world, I keep up to date on the latest techniques and trends in both digital photography and architectural photography. I have developed strong skills in both digital photography and computer programs such as Photoshop.
Experience
I have been doing architectural photography for 20 years, and have gained a great deal of experience in this field. I now have several large profile architectural photography clients. I have worked in other areas of photography too, with a wide range of professional clients.
The Pacific Northwest has provided me with excellent experience in this specialty because of its great range of architecture, weather conditions, and lighting conditions. I am experienced in many types of architectural photography.
